Oggie Oh Oggie!! My granddaughter giggled all the way through this book! When it comes to teaching kids I believe books are great to use!
Learning the color orange with Oggie the Otter
I am a visual learner and enjoy things I can look at and when I can learn hands on that is the very best for me. Many people are this way. They learn from seeing things and they can visualize what they have learned in their head. By visualizing what they have learned they can recognize it again.
Kids are no different. When teaching a color, seeing the color and hearing the name of the color and matching it with familiar items, kids can learn the colors easily.
In “Oggie the Otter” he only likes to eat orange things. What a fun concept in a book to teach the color orange. Oggie’s poor mom cannot find anything for Oggie to eat. She came up with lots of great foods and Oggie would find something orange he would rather.
But then his smart mom devised a perfect plan. What will happen next?
“Oggie the Otter” is written in an easy to read rhyming form with catchy phrases. What better way to teach a child the color orange. This cute book will help children remember the color orange and they won’t forget the cute little character Oggie.
As I said my granddaughter (3 1/2 years old) loved this book. She giggled as we read it, and we read it more than once. She came up with food of her own that Oggie could eat that was orange.
About the Author
Alissa McClure, the author of “Oggie the Otter” was inspired to write this book while looking for words that began with the letter O. Alissa belongs to a pre-school coop. They were learning a new letter of the alphabet each week. She had a hard time finding a book about the letter O so she decided to write her own clever story about an otter named Oggie.
Houston, Texas is where Alissa calls home. She lives there with her 5 children and her husband. She has also written Nace’s adventure. She is currently working on another book for middle school age kids. This new book is about the town she lives in and loves, Houston, Texas.
About the illustrator
The illustrator of “Oggie the Otter” just happens to be her uncle Kevin Schertz. I really like the pictures. They are bright and cheery. I love the expressions, they are so cute. They depict exactly what you would expect from an otter that is a picky eater.
Where to find good books
