Traveling with kids can sometimes be a little challenging but you as a parent can make it a very rewarding and an educational experience. How many times in one trip do you hear, “are we there yet?” There are many things parents may do to make traveling a little bit easier.
Are we there yet? Tips for traveling with kids.
I ask a few parents what they do to make the trip more enjoyable for their child. Here are a few of the suggestions they came up with along with a few of my own.
- Snacks, lots of snacks.
- Books on tapes
- Children’s music
- Travel games
- Watching for different states license plates
- I spy
- Color and draw
- Books to read
Another suggestion was to plan the trip with a lunch or dinner stop at an eating place with a playground. Let the kids play while you eat and take your children’s meal to go.
Depending on the age of the child many of these suggestions may help get you through that long drive. One of the parent’s commented, “I have a child that gets car sick easily and can not read or do things.” This could make things a little more challenging! One of my suggestions for this would be the essential oil “EZTraveler.” I can relate to this little girls issue and this oil is what I use. Games that can be played watching for things may help also, and fresh air.
An idea my grandkiddies love.
When my grandkids come to visit I try to make the trip home a little easier. I make each of them their own special travel bag. Each bag has a treat and toys that I pick up from the dollar store like cars, goofy party favors, coloring books, story books and anything that can entertain them for a while. When they leave the house I give them a landmark down the road they have to watch for. When they see the landmark they can open the travel bag. This keeps them busy anticipating for the first 10 to 15 minutes of the trip.
My grandkids love these. It makes it a little easier for the parents to get them motivated to get into the car to go home. They don’t get the travel bag until they are sitting in the car with seatbelts on.
This is a fun tradition for me and the grandkids. I have as much fun buying the surprises to put in the travel bag as they do opening them, I think.
I love creating traditions with my family. I feel building memories with family is very important and helps strengthen family relationships. Families are important. Another reason to make your trips fun and memorable.
To help you out with your next trip I have included a free download. Interacting and talking are important for family relationships. You know real conversations. Something other than he looked at me! She’s touching me! I remember those days
Maybe this free travel page will add a little fun to your trip. Hopefully, your trip will become an adventure.
